How to Get Your First Call Center Job with no experience

Call centers in the Philippines are known for two things, they offer opportunities for fresh graduates and give a chance for undergraduates to a great and fulfilling career. It is also no secret that salaries for call centers are higher than the current minimum wage and also has tons of benefits. The usual starting range as of 2022 is 15-20k starting for those with zero experience, HMO, plus benefits.

There are a few things you can do to increase your chances of getting a call center job. First, research the types of call center jobs that are available and match your skills to the job requirements. Next, update your resume and cover letter to highlight your customer service experience. Finally, apply for jobs that interest you and be sure to follow up with the hiring manager.

If you have no previous customer service experience, you may want to consider applying for a entry-level call center job. These types of jobs will give you the opportunity to learn the basics of customer service and build up your skills. Once you have some experience under your belt, you can then apply for more senior-level positions.

It's also important to keep your resume and cover letter up-to-date when you're searching for a call center job. Make sure to highlight any customer service experience you have, even if it's not directly related to a call center. Employers will be looking for candidates with strong communication and people skills, so be sure to showcase these qualities in your application materials.

So what should I do to get a job in a call center?

1. Practice speaking and writing in English fluently.

This is a must and is the major determining factor in your application. Hone your English skills, practice and get better at it. This is why call centers offer opportunities for undergraduates, because the key skill is really the ability to write and converse in English which anyone can do.

If you are weak in this aspect, there are so many free training and tutorial videos available on the net to help you.

2. Practice typing.

Another requirement for call centers is the speed you can type. This is easy since everyone pretty much has their own computers or laptops at home. If not, practice with a broken keyboard - these amount to 100 pesos only. Try to take online typing tutor courses.

3. Be computer literate.

You need to know how to navigate computers, be familiar with apps such as word or notepad and know how to navigate through a computer. Go to computer shops if you have no computer at home, try to create your own resume and navigate through browsers. The key computer skills you will be assessed on is to be at least computer literate, meaning - you can navigate through technology.

NOTE: Some call center applications require you to create a profile using a computer as a first step. If you ask questions at this point, you are not creating a good impression.

4. Create a targeted resume.

So many resources online on how you can write a resume. Make sure you highlight those points that focus on communication skills, typing, and problem solving.

 5. Start the application process.

Simply go online and look for call center openings and you will have quite a long list. Send your resumes in to all those different companies. You will also see options for career fairs and walk in applications, try to get some budget and go to these events. There are one day hiring processes which can either land you a job or help you gain interview experience.

 6. Reflect when rejected.

If you then get feedback that you did not get in after an interview, try to reflect on the points why. Review what you think you did properly, and reflect on what you did wrong. Then try and apply once again to the next company. You must improve yourself with every rejection.

I do hope these tips help you get ideas on how to start your call center journey.
